SO...HERE'S MY FINAL PATTERN. TO BE USED AS FOR WALLPAPER AND SOFT FURNISHINGS.

havn't written on this thing in ages because of two reasons...one, i dont have internet at home and another thing, because i like working in my sketchbook so it seems a bit forced to then copy up all that onto here. i've been having lots of fun on part 4. im doing this on a french keyboard by the way so this is even harder. ok, well part " was a little difficult for me, i felt like i was kinda working on part 4 when i shouldn't have been, so i took a step back and looked at pattern cutting instead of actual pattern. going home lots has taken up a lot of time too so i havn't done an amazing job on that. i learnt to work with linited resources for example no scanner or printer. then when i needed a sewing machine i obviously couldnt get hold of one.

so part 4, the deconstructing bit...iv been getting quite carried away with this. i love that we've been left to experiment. i've done the stuff that i love doing, very hand rendered, sewing, playing with shapes...it's been fun. i found myself working lots on the layout and shapes of the gun magazine. it took a while but i finally found a pattern that i liked, which can be modified easily by changing colours. it seems to appeal to lots of people boys and girls.

now i'm gonna leave you with some random pics from the development in my sketchbook. astrid is showing me how to upload pictures because i'n alergic to technology. before i go though, i should say that this last few days has been extrenly stressful because it always is at the end of a project and i know that i spent far too much time playing with ideas for part 4.

i hope you enjoy the next bit...finally some colour. xxxxxxxxxx

It's been a while since I last posted so I'll tell you where I am so far...

The last thing we did was to work on the "Gun." We placed the Gun contenet into our grid. As far as I can tell, I think it's been a lot easier to place content into a ready made grid. We have made a few editorial decissions about what will be placed in which picture or text boxes. We all helped with the decission making of the front page but it was mostly down to Felix and Sarah who actually put it together. The front page was done fairly quickly. The pictures that we got from the Gun were not great so we had to sharpen them up before we worked on them. Amalia and I were working on chosing the pictures and text that we would use in the double page spread last week. By Wednesday afternoon, the cover was done and the pictures were on the other pages. We did type up some of the text but then realised Amalia didn't have the right font on her computer and we couldn't transfere if from Lukes laptop. It'll be quicker if we do it on Luke's laptop cos we can just copy and paste the articles, instead of having to play with alignment, curning, leading etc after we type it all out again.

I was ill on friday so I didn't come in and then I had to go home because one of my family has been sent into hospital. Hopefully I'll be back in by Tueaday.

We finished the first part of the brief and I think we did a pretty good job. We didn't manage to get hold of one of the fonts so that bit didn't look great. Obviously if we could have printed on the right paper that would have made a huge differnce to te finished article but the printer kept jamming when we tried that. We've just got hold of "THE GUN" because that group had to make a few changes and re-scan some images. Unfortunatly, the images that we've been given are still a little pixilated.

Still no internet I'm affraid. We placed all the photos in the correct places at the weekend. It took a while to change the images but it's all done now. Luke found most of the fonts but when we placed them into the grid, they didn't align properly. We've changed the leading and curned etc but still aren't perfect. We spent the whole of today doing this and a bit of friday so we hope it's right. When we went to print, the quality on ink jet was pretty rubbish, the colours were all washed out. We tried doing the same thing on digital which at first looked great but then the printer decided to eat it cos it didn't like newsprint paper. We decided that we'd prefere a good print out even if we can't get it on newsprint.

Just waiting for print outs in a huge que at the moment.

Last night I typed up all the text from all the 3 pages but this morning I came in and Felix had done that too. He's also placed it into the grids and boxes that we have made together so that's good. We've spoken to Luke and Peter about where we are so far and they seem to think we're on the right track. All of us have been cropping and photoshopping photos this morning. They're almost all ready to place onto the grid but we're waiting for the A3 scanner to re-san an image. Some of the images have a bit of a dodge quality because they're scanned from dodgy photos but we've tried pretty-ing and cleaning them up a bit.

bye for now. xxx

THE SUN

It's taken a while to get this blogg stuff started because I'm internetless at the moment.

Yesterday we all got together at Amalias flat and fried our brains. We sat for hours and measured and remeasured, checked and measured again all the text and image boxes. We did get it wrong a fair few times! We worked out the best way to do it was to always take measurements from one fixed point whilst checking against other points as we went along. Luke has found some of the type faces that we need so once we've typed them out, hopefully they won't be too difficult to place in the text boxes. We've also scanned in the front page of the sun and chosen pages 18 and 19 as our double page spread, they've been scanned too. I think that's us up to date so far.....

update you soon. x
